If you drafted Omarion Hampton in your fantasy football league, odds are that things aren’t going so well right now. Hampton was drafted with the expectation of being an RB1, but at this point, it raises a much more concerning question. Can you start Hampton in Week 6 of the fantasy football season?
While it may sound ridiculous to potentially bench a player you drafted extremely high, Hampton is averaging 9.9 points on the year. That’s not even good enough to be an RB2.
The interesting part is that Hampton has had two strong performances, with 17.5 points in Week 2 and 13.3 in Week 4. Where the problem lies is that there hasn’t really been any kind of floor for Hampton this year. Scoring less than 8.4 points in every other week.
Where it gets interesting is that Hampton is rarely being used as a receiver, with zero games of over two targets, but he’s had at least 14 carries in three of these five games. The volume for Hampton isn’t awful, but he’s on the 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers and averaging 3.7 YPC.
Taking a look only at the matchup, the Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
Given that Kalshi gives the Chargers just a 22% chance to win this one, that indicates that they’ll likely be trailing for most of the game. With Hampton getting most of his work as a rusher, that’s a concern.
When looking at some fantasy football-specific numbers, the Chiefs have allowed the 21st most PPG to running backs this year, making this not a great matchup.
Referencing that with the PFF matchup tool, they give Hampton a fair matchup but rank Kansas City fifth among 32 defenses. With that in mind, if you have any better option, I’m looking to bench Hampton this week.
I’m aware that might be tough given when you drafted Hampton in your fantasy football league, but if you have a quality RB2 on your bench, it makes sense at this point.
