One Big 'If' Leveled At Schottenheimer's Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is perhaps the most maligned player in the league, with the Pro Bowler facing considerable criticism for his playoff failures.

Granted, those are merited, but Dak in the regular season has been one of the better quarterbacks in football, but that isn't success - winning Super Bowls is.

Coming off a poor 2024 season, which ended in Week 9, Dak, who wasn't having a good year prior to the injury, is hoping to return to his 2023 form, which saw him finish second in MVP voting.

And for Bleacher Report, in what they call a best-case scenario, the front office has given Dak all the tools in 2025, but there's a big question mark over it all.

"The good news is the Cowboys have addressed just about everything they could," Bleacher Report writes. "Brian Schottenheimer gets to call the shots as head coach now, they traded for George Pickens and remade the backfield by acquiring Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders before drafting Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.

"If it all comes together, Prescott should return to form and the Cowboys will have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league."

That word "if" is all that comes together.

Just because there is a good collection of talent, that means zero - it has to work in unison.

That's where Brian Schottenheimer and his new culture take center stage. Players who want to play for one another and not let each other down. Additionally, bringing together so many new faces and hitting it off straight out of the gate is a challenging feat to accomplish.

Especially when it is the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 1.

But if (that word again) things do mesh and Prescott can get near his 2023 form, with Pickens, Lamb, a revamped run game, and an offensive line that has three first-round picks, this Cowboys offense might be one of the better units in football.

"If" everything goes well.
