One day at minicamp is all this forgotten Eagles veteran needed to prove himself

The Philadelphia Eagles' full 90-man roster only had one day of mandatory minicamp to show the coaches what they can do before their extended break before training camp next month.

While most NFL teams are holding multiple days of mandatory minicamps, the Eagles are opting for just one day. It was a perfect day of weather, with some standouts emerging from the practice. Some performed well and have been on the roster for a while, and others who need to make a good first impression.

Eagles wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. is getting a complete reboot to his career after getting lost in the shuffle during his past four years with the Carolina Panthers. Marshall is on the verge of that happening again with a deep wide receiver room, but he made sure the coaches remember him through the next month, plus after his practice.

Marshall excels at Eagles minicamp as he battles for a roster spot

CBS Sports Eagles reporter Jeff Kerr shared a list of his five big takeaways from the team's only day of minicamp. One of the notes Kerr added in his article was the solid day of work Marshall did as he was beating some of the top defenders on the field.

"Marshall has gained the trust of Hurts this spring, and the mandatory minicamp practice was the best of the three practices open to the media. Marshall got open over the middle of the field for a long gain early in a 7-on-7 period with the first team, and then he caught a touchdown pass from Hurts on a slant in which he beat Cooper DeJean (DeJean was playing in the slot).

Behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson, there are two spots to be had amongst the wide receiver group. Marshall may be locking down one of them."

Marshall was a former second-round pick of the Panthers in 2021 and never quite lived up to the hype. His best season came in 2022 when he caught 28 passes for 490 yards and his only career touchdown. He has 67 receptions for 808 yards in 43 career games.

Philadelphia's starters are already established at wide receiver with Brown, Smith, and Dotson. Marshall is fighting for two of the final spots with Anais Smith, Johnny Wilson, and Danny Gray, who have been the other big names from offseason workouts.

The advantage Marshall has is his experience and speed. He has run a 4.4 40-yard dash time and can break open for yards after catch. Marshall just hasn't been able to live up to his expectations in Carolina.

Going into training camp, Marshall helped his case to make the final roster, but he has a long way to go. The Eagles seem to have been leaning towards younger players, as they are cheaper financially and can be developed.

Marshall has a long way to go when training camp begins next month, but he made his life easier after a stellar minicamp workout.
