The Falcons took a stab and made Pitts the highest drafted tight end in NFL history in 2021 and watched as he put up a pro bowl season right off the bat. After his rookie season his production started plummeting and he currently has 10 total touchdowns in four seasons.
Pitts has shown potential throughout his short career but has yet to have that full breakout season that the Falcons believe he can have. He also has been fully healthy for three of his four seasons and has been the number one tight end in each of those years.
Pitts has been linked to many different teams in the offseason and none of them had ended up pulling the trigger on a trade. Pitts will have to prove his worth in his upcoming fifth season if he wants another contract with the Falcons or a big contract with another team.
Michael Penix Jr. will have his hands full already will all the weapons he has on this team with Bijan Robinson and Drake London. Pitts will have to be that third weapon and make sure the Falcons are fully set on that tight end position.
The Falcons now have tight ends such as Nikola Kalinic, Teagan Quitoriano and Charlie Woerner on the roster who all are looking to compete with Pitts for that top tight end spot. Pitts has the upside and edge but also has a lot to prove as the season starts soon.
The Falcons are hoping that Pitts becomes the All-Pro level star that they drafted with the fourth pick.
