Either the New England Patriots weren't satisfied with the returns of Stefon Diggs' first season or they wanted the cap relief that came with moving on from him.
Whatever the case, they released him early in the offseason, and he remains unsigned.
Diggs carries some baggage and is in the backend of his prime, so it's easy to understand why some teams would be hesitant to make him an offer.
However, of all the teams still looking for another pass-catcher, one quietly stands out from the rest of the pack: the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans hired former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll to be their next offensive coordinator.
That's the same Brian Daboll who helped Diggs earn his first two Pro Bowl nods and his lone first-team All-Pro selection when they overlapped with the Buffalo Bills.
Diggs hauled in 230 receptions on 330 targets for 2,760 yards and 18 touchdowns in those two years, per Pro Football Reference, averaging 12.0 yards per catch, 7.0 catches per game, 83.6 yards per game and 8.4 yards per target.
He even led the league in targets (166), receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) in his first year in Buffalo.
Granted, he's not 28 anymore, and Cam Ward is no Josh Allen, but Daboll certainly knows how to get him open and make the most of his skill set.
The Titans are still looking for another proven pass-catcher for their prized quarterback, and there's room for Diggs even after signing Wan'Dale Robinson.
Diggs might be past the time when he could handpick his next destination, and he may no longer be a priority for contending teams.
That said, the Titans should be one of the most-improved teams in the league next season, and both parties could benefit greatly from this gamble.
