Following the Green Bay Packers' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC wild-card round, players met with media members as they cleaned out their lockers. Some players gave lengthy interviews, expressing disappointment with how the season ended, but also happy/grateful for how it went overall. Some, like center Josh Myers, were saying their goodbyes as they entered free agency.
But one player, Jaire Alexander, had a different message. He did not speak to reporters for very long, but said he had nothing good to say and that he was not sure if he was going to return to the team in 2025.
This, of course, fueled speculation that the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was going to be traded or released in the offseason, with one reporter stating that there was less than a 1 percent chance Alexander would return.
The prediction may have been a bit pessimistic.
According to a report by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers have already approached the two-time Pro Bowler with a restructured contract.
“According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Packers have proposed a restructured contract to Alexander, which tangibly demonstrates their interest in retaining the two-time All-Pro cornerback during an offseason in which they have been open to trading him,” Schneidman wrote.
It, perhaps, is not a surprise that Green Bay wants to keep Alexander around if possible because, when healthy, he is one of the best cornerbacks in the league.
But what was the most surprising detail of of Schneidman’s report was this: “Alexander, 28, wants to remain in Green Bay…”
After all that was said and done over the last two seasons, many thought that the two-time Pro Bowler wanted out. However, that does not appear to be the case.
That being said, the Packers could still release Alexander if he does not agree to a restructured contract.
