Wednesday was a day off from practice on the field at training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as a midpoint to the first full week of camp.
There were some highlight moments from players like Quinyon Mitchell at cornerback, to ,Elijah Cooks making spectacular catches every day. Some of the tough moments have been the offensive struggles over the last few days.
This is all part of the training camp process, as there will be good days and bad ones. Some players are shining, but others need to step up for various reasons. Those are the players who could make or break the season for the Eagles if their performances continue to be inconsistent or subpar.
It has become clear that Eagles' defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was forced to have Adoree' Jackson because general manager Howie Roseman wanted him, and Jackson has some work to do to prove what he can do. Currently, Jackson and Kelee Ringo are in a battle for the second starting cornerback job opposite side of Mitchell. If there is a potential starter who has the biggest hill to climb to prove himself to the coaching staff, it's Jackson.
Shipley isn't necessarily playing badly in training camp, but AJ Dillon appears to be getting more reps and touches with the first team. Where Shipley can separate himself from Dillon is what he can do in the passing game as more of a receiving back. If Shipley wants to win the backup running back spot behind Saquon Barkley, he'll have to start making some highlight plays.
It's challenging to pin all the offensive issues solely on Jalen Hurts, as that wouldn't be fair; however, Hurts is still the quarterback and is somewhat responsible for getting the offense in sync. He had a stellar first few days of training camp, but once Monday hit, the struggles became more clear with pre-snap penalties, and Hurts threw a rare practice interception. This shouldn't be a major cause of concern since nothing bothers Hurts, but getting back into rhythm for the second half of the week would be nice to see.
With all the issues going on with the offense, Toth has had his struggles with low snaps as he filled in for Cam Jurgens at center. The Eagles need their offensive line depth to be rock-solid, especially with the team working on Tyler Steen as their starting right guard. Center is the most important position on the line, and Toth needs to improve to stay as the backup or rookie Drew Kendall could be right back at second string.
