Tight end University is back for its fifth annual installment.
Created by Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Greg Olsen back in 2021, the three will host and participate in on-field drills, film study, and other team-building activities. A total of 78 tight ends from around the league, ranging from rookies to veterans, will participate in the camp.
Kelce is set to enter his 13th season with the Kansas City Chiefs, and Kittle his ninth with the San Francisco 49ers. Olsen retired following the 2020 season after a 14-year career with Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and Seattle Seahawks. Olsen is now a color commentator for Fox Sports.
Kelce has always been passionate about helping develop other TEs and increasing the value of the position. He is fresh out of Chiefs mandatory minicamp from last week, and has slimmed down a bit from his playing weight in 2024. Joining him at TEU from K.C's roster will be veteran Robert Tonyan.
The Chiefs signed Tonyan to their practice squad late last season. Entering his ninth NFL season, he'll be competing for the No. 3 TE role behind Kelce and Noah Gray. In 2020 Tonyan tied with Kelce for the most receiving touchdowns among all TEs with 11. An ACL injury that he suffered in 2021 set his career back.
It's interesting that Tonyan is the only one of Kelce's teammates joining him at TEU. Young guys such as Jared Wiley and Jake Briningstool could really benefit from it. Gray participated in the camp back in 2022. Some notable names taking part in it this year include Brock Bowers, Dallas Goedert, Evan Engram, and Trey McBride.
ESPN will be broadcasting TEU from Vanderbilt University on Wednesday, June 24, hosted by Dan Orlovsky and Laura Rutledge. When it is over, Kelce and the rest of the league will have some time off before training camps open across the league in late July, with the Chiefs reporting on July 22.
