Only Two Head Coaching Vacancies Are Left In The NFL

Over the past few days, four NFL teams have filled their head-coaching vacancies. The latest hire was made by the Las Vegas Raiders.

On Friday morning, the Raiders agreed to a three-year deal with former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Although there might be concerns about his age, he should bring a championship culture to Las Vegas.

Less than 24 hours ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars made former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen their head coach. They fired general manager Trent Baalke just to make it happen. Of course, we can't forget the Detroit Lions lost both their coordinators this week. Ben Johnson took his talents to the Chicago Bears, and the New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn as their head coach.

As things currently stand, there only two teams left in the NFL that don't have a head coach. Those two teams are the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.

The Cowboys have been linked to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, but nothing has been finalized yet.

"Here’s the deal. No unanimous decision yet in Dallas," NFL Network reporter Jane Slater said. "There have been informal talks and 'picking of brains' from the likes of Pete Carroll, Deion Sanders and there was even a chat with Rich Bisaccia. Brian Schottenheimer seems to have the most steam but things remain fluid. There are reasons the above aren’t legitimate contenders but Jerry Jones is certainly talking to a lot more people than he did the last search. Talks internally continue today as we wait based on multiple phone calls with several parties involved."

The Saints, on the other hand, put their coaching search on hold due to an unprecedented snowstorm. They're expected to meet with Joe Brady, Mike Kafka, Mike McCarthy and Anthony Weaver among other candidates.

Brady and McCarthy appear to be the favorites to coach the Saints, but nothing is imminent at this time. It's worth noting though that both candidates have coached in New Orleans before, so they have a connection with general manager Mickey Loomis.

As of now, it sounds like the Cowboys will make a decision before the Saints.
