Oregon's Football Program Accused Of Cheating After Rose Bowl Loss

If getting embarrassed in the Rose Bowl wasn't bad enough, Oregon is being accused of tampering with another program's players this week.

After last week's Fiesta Bowl, Boise State offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter announced his retirement from coaching. He announced his decision with a post on Facebook, which included his true feelings on the current landscape of college football. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach said, "College football is changing rapidly, and maybe not for the better." Additionally, he said the best players on Boise State are being offered way more money from other players.

“Our best players are getting offered between 2 and 10 times what we can offer,” Koetter wrote. “We are losing recruits in the portal to schools that are just flat outbidding us. I know it’s not all about the money, and Coach D and staff will undoubtedly continue to find the ‘right kind of guys,’ but money is an issue."

We now know at least one team "outbidding" Boise State. During an appearance on KTIK Idaho Sports Talk, Koetter said Oregon contacted one of Boise State's players right after the Fiesta Bowl.

"I know for a fact that just last week, after the Fiesta Bowl, one of the key starters on defense got a call from the Oregon Ducks offering him $700,000," Koetter said, via On3

This won't be the last time college football teams get caught tampering. If anything, this is just the beginning.

Koetter, 65, won't have to worry about tampering since he's done coaching. That being said, he clearly has concerns about the future of college sports.

"Conference realignment, roster limitations, transfer portal, NIL, lack of a governing body with any power are all issues that have to be dealt with," Koetter said.

As for Oregon, not a single member from Dan Lanning's staff has responded to Koetter's accusations.
