Packers' Aaron Rodgers earns fourth NFL MVP award

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL MVP for the fourth time in his career on Thursday night as was expected heading into the NFL Honors show.

Rodgers, 38, threw 37 touchdown passes and just four interceptions in the 2021 regular season and led the league with a 111.9 passer rating. He was the prohibitive favorite to win the award and even seemed to celebrate ahead of time when he corrected an announced Wednesday who introduced him as a three-time MVP.

Rodgers has been the subject of discussion for much more than just his play in 2021. His future with the Packers is in doubt after a tumultuous year behind the scenes that saw him sit out much of the offseason. Earlier Thursday, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said the team team is "in communication" with Rodgers and that Green Bay hopes he'll be back in 2022.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp was named the Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday and Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
