The Packers are leaving no stone unturned in looking for defensive line depth, with the NFL Playoffs set to get underway in less than two weeks.
After Devonte Wyatt was lost for the season, Green Bay has struggled to replace his consistent dominance along the middle of the defensive line, which could be a big problem against Saquon Barkley or D’Andre Swift, and Kyle Monangai in the first round of the NFL Playoffs.
Ahead of Sunday’s regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings, and with the playoffs drawing nearer, the Packers claimed former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Jonathan Ford off waivers.
Ford, 27, was originally chosen by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft but never played a down for the organization.
Appearing in 12 games over the past two seasons, Ford has 13 total tackles.
Claiming Ford offers the upside not only of him potentially contributing quality snaps in the postseason, but he could offer valuable intel on the Bears’ offense, Caleb Williams, and especially in helping head coach Matt LaFleur and Jordan Love prepare for a showdown against Dennis Allen’s Chicago defense.
