Packers AJ Dillon Opens Up On Free Agency Experience
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

After re-signing with the Green Bay Packers this offseason, running back AJ Dillon recently spoke about the free agency process.

As always, it has been a busy offseason for the Green Bay Packers, as they have tried to put some of the final touches on their team as they look to become a Super Bowl contender this season.

One of the areas that the Packers knew they would have to address was the running back position. Despite the combination of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon doing some good things over the years, the Green Bay Packers decided to move on from Jones and sign Josh Jacobs.

However, as a free agent also, Dillon was re-signed by the Packers this offseason. Recently, Dillon spoke about free agency and being happy to be back with the Packers. Here’s what he had to say.

“It felt good,” he said. “The first time going through the free agency process, it was a little weird just figuring it all out.”

“It worked out great that we could stay home, stay in Green Bay, and continue to work at the ultimate goal, going ahead and getting a Super Bowl.”

Dillon has been a well-liked member of the Packers, but there was a lot of uncertainty about whether or not he would be back. After getting his feet wet in his rookie season, Dillon was a pretty important player for the Packers’ offense in 2022 and 2023.

In 2022, AJ Dillon totaled over 1,000 yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry on the ground. He followed that up in 2023 with another 1,000 yards of total offense and kept his yards per carry average over 4.0.

However, in his contract year last season, Dillon saw his yards per carry average drop to 3.4. That is certainly a bit of a concern for the Packers, as those are some poor numbers for a running back.

As Dillon enters his fifth season in the league, he will be looking to bounce back from a down 2023 season. At just 26 years old, age shouldn’t be an issue for him, as the Green Bay Packers will hope he can once again be a key contributor to their offense.
