Josh Jacobs has been one of the NFL’s best running backs, now playing in his seventh season in the league. The 27-year-old ballcarrier has been the lead option in the Green Bay Packers rushing attack, now in the second year of his four-year, 48 million dollar contract. Jacobs has appeared in 21 consecutive games to open his tenure with the Packers.
Heading into Week 4’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, Jacobs averaged just 3.1 yards per carry (180 yards on 58 attempts), which would mark the lowest of his career. Fortunately for Jacobs, he turned it around against Dallas, logging 22 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns in regulation.
Jacobs’ momentum came to a halt halfway through the fourth quarter, and he headed to the locker room after scoring his second touchdown of the night, prompting immediate concern among fans.
The Packers announced moments later on X, “Packers injury update: RB Josh Jacobs (knee) is questionable to return.” Jacobs was then seen sprinting on the sideline and receiving treatment from trainers. After missing the first play of the next Packers drive, Jacobs fortunately returned and got the ball immediately, providing a sense of relief. However, he was then absent for the next five plays, with his backup Emanuel Wilson coming into the game before Jacobs returned again with a 14-yard burst and then a three-yard loss. Wilson returned for the final two plays of the drive.

Jacobs’ status will continue to be monitored as future updates surface, yet it seems he has avoided a significant injury. He has proven to be a durable running back willing to push through injury for the benefit of his team, and head coach Matt LaFleur was likely giving Jacobs extra time to rest. As the NFC North race heats up, expectations are high for Green Bay, and Jacobs will continue to be leaned on down the stretch.
Jacobs has had an impressive career since he debuted back in 2019, earning an All-Pro honor and three Pro Bowl selections. He has yet to experience any playoff success, but will look to turn that around with the Packers.
