Packers are still exploring quarterback options even after signing Canadian standout, and it speaks volumes about their approach

The Green Bay Packers have four quarterbacks on the 90-man roster for the first time in a long time, but it doesn't mean they are completely set or satisfied. Days after signing Canadian star Taylor Elgersma, the team worked out former Washington quarterback Will Rogers, who went undrafted and is still unsigned.

Rogers (and not Rodgers, before you make any jokes) played four seasons at Mississippi State between 2020 and 2023 before transferring to Washington for his final year of eligibility. Last season, he played 11 games, with 2,458 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Down the stretch, he lost the starting job and had to mentor freshman Demond Williams Jr. , a long-term decision made by head coach Jedd Fisch.

"He's going to continue to work on all of the things that will help him as he begins to train for the NFL," Fisch said after benching Rogers. "Which is weight room, speed, accuracy, doing all the individual fundamentals, being a part of a great nutrition program, and continue to learn the game."

The Athletic's draft analyst Dane Brugler ranked Rogers as the 21st best quarterback of the 2025 Draft Class. He is a 6-2, 207-pound quarterback.

Depth

The Packers are pretty much set at the two top spots of the depth chart with Jordan Love and Malik Willis, but Willis is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Therefore, the Packers are already looking at long-term options to back up Love in the future if Willis signs elsewhere next offseason.

Green Bay still has former fifth-round pick Sean Clifford under contract, since he signed a two-year deal when promoted to the active roster late last year. Canadian star Taylor Elgersma signed a three-year, undrafted contract.

This time of the year, this type of movement is normal. It doesn't mean the Packers plan to or will sign Rogers, but they are able to have a closer look and understand what he is as a prospect if an opportunity arises later on.
