Packers: Benefits of having Jordan Love at voluntary offseason workouts in 2023
Jordan Love Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

As of April 17th, teams with returning head coaches can begin offseason workout programs. Matt LaFleur will be returning for the 2023 season. Multiple players clocked into work at Lambeau Field, including Christian Watson, Aaron Jones (with his son), Preston Smith, Pat O’Donnell, and QB1 Jordan Love, to name a few. Many fans might wonder why it is a big deal that only a handful of players showed up to the field when they don’t have to. In Green Bay, we are used to seeing our QB1 appear once it is mandatory. Aaron Rodgers had not attended voluntary camps when most fans thought it would be a good idea. Especially last year when the Packers had a very young WR room.

Why It Is A Big Deal Jordan Love Showed Up

There are a lot of fans that could argue Love showing up to an offseason workout program is not a big deal. With Jordan Love entering his third season and his first as a starter, Love looks to show the team he is ready to be QB1. Also, with one of the league’s youngest receiving groups, fans hope that Love can build chemistry with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, similar to Rodgers with Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb. Also, Aaron Jones coming to an offseason workout gives Jordan more time to build something with a veteran running back, and make him the security blanket he needs in the backfield. In years past, it always seemed like the Packers would get off to a slow start.

Something Packers Fans Are Not Used To

Fingers were pointed at Aaron Rodgers as he did not come to most offseason workouts unless he had to. Another thing fans have pointed out in the past was that only a few starters played in preseason including most of the offense- however, we won’t know what will change when preseason starts this year. We can hope to assume that more starters will see some reps this preseason without overdoing it. Whether that is the reason for a slow start or not, they are fair reasons.

Tough Job

Jordan Love looks to continue the legacy in Green Bay. Following two Hall of Fame QBs might be one of the most challenging jobs in sports. However, Jordan will do anything in the 2023 mini/training camp to build chemistry with veterans and young players.
