The Packers have built a logjam at wide receiver.
Romeo Doubs is coming off the finest performance of his season, catching three touchdown passes in a 40-40 tie with the Dallas Cowboys, Christian Watson could be on the cusp of returning, and Dontayvion Wicks remains a legitimate weapon for quarterback Jordan Love.
However, arguably the Packers’ best rookie on either side of the ball is first-round pick and speedster Matthew Golden, who is quickly climbing Love’s target hierarchy and Green Bay’s depth chart at receiver.
“First-round pick Matthew Golden is the obvious pick,” Zack Krause writes for PackersWire, listing Golden as his top rookie. “His numbers don’t jump off the page — 11 catches for 126 yards and four first downs and six rushes for 29 yards — but Golden has two catches over 30 yards and he’s consistently getting open.”
If Golden can continue to be a consistent deep threat, and take the top off opposing defenses, he isn’t just going to build Love’s confidence in him but also become one of the Packers’ most dangerous weapons on offense.
