The Green Bay Packers’ climb towards a division championship may have gotten tougher this offseason.

While the Detroit Lions lost both coordinators to become head coaches, head coach Dan Campbell’s squad is still loaded with young firepower on both sides of the football. In Chicago, general manager Ryan Poles has pulled off a complete revamp around quarterback Caleb Williams, bolstered the offensive line, and added some teeth on defense ahead of new head coach Ben Johnson’s arrival. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are turning the keys to an explosive offense over to second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Green Bay has plenty of talent, and added a speedster at wide receiver, in first-round rookie Matthew Golden, but the Packers still have some holes to fill in order to close the gap on Detroit and fend off the likes of Chicago and Minnesota this season.

Packers’ Biggest Reason for Optimism in 2025

Over at CBS Sports, NFL analyst Tyler Sullivan put together a list of each team’s biggest reason for optimism in 2025, including Jordan Love’s track record of strong second halves of the season.

“For the second year in a row,” Sullivan writes for CBS. “Jordan Love has shown us his ability to come alive down the stretch. I think that’s a window into the peak of his powers, which Green Bay should hope comes together throughout a full season. Over the last two seasons, Love has gone 11-5 with 28 touchdowns and just two interceptions between Weeks 11 and 18. However, Love’s hot streak came to a screeching halt with a three-interception performance in a one-and-done showing against the Eagles. While that definitely leaves a sour taste, Love is flashing elite potential at times. And with first-round receiver Matthew Golden now slotted in as another weapon, it’s possible we see more of that version of the Green Bay QB.”

Perhaps Love’s strongest finish to a season came in 2023, his first as the Packers’ starter, when he guided Green Bay to six wins over the final eight weeks, including a pair of three-game winning streaks over that span.

If Golden becomes the field-stretching presence capable of making the passing game even more explosive, perhaps Love’s history of strong finishes will get another more meaningful chapter written in 2025.
