The Green Bay Packers are largely considered the best team in the NFL after the first two weeks, but the players aren’t letting their success rule the locker room.
Evan Williams is one of the Green Bay Packers‘ breakout stars, currently stepping up into a dominant role in his second season in the NFL. Yet, much like other players on the roster, the standout playmaker isn’t letting early success get in the way of the team’s long-term goal.
After beating the Washington Commanders, Packers All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney said he refused to buy into the hype , and explained that a lot of teams have started out 2-0 before flaming out later in the season.
Green Bay has comfortably beaten two very talented and well-coached football teams so far this season, both of whom made the playoffs in 2024.
The talent of the Packers was made even clearer when the Lions bounced back in Week 2, putting up 52 points against another NFC North rival, the Chicago Bears.
Green Bay had just held that same Lions team to just 13 points in Week 1, and they’d failed to score a touchdown until the fourth quarter of the game.

Safety Evan Williams met with the media this week, and explained the mindset within the Packers’ locker room:
“One of our sayings is ‘don’t let a victory mask your problems’, and that’s definitely true when it comes to this team. We do a lot of great things, but there’s also a bunch of things we can improve upon. Definitely working to do that every week and just keep going 1-0.”
He continued:
“We celebrate all wins, for sure, but at the same time, the moment that complacency settles in is the moment you’ve lost your next game. We understand we’ve got to keep our foot on the pedal.”
Williams was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft, who played a rotational role for a portion of the season, while starting seven games.
This year, he caught an interception while breaking on a Jared Goff pass in Week 1, and is settling in well among the Packers’ elite group of defensive backs.

Dude rotated off a Quarters look to Cover 3 & showed some incredible range
PFF also notes Micah Parsons earned a "significant positive grade" for his inside rush, which clearly rushed Goff pic.twitter.com/OtQhMAVkJD
Micah Parsons had promised that his presence on the defensive line would make the DBs rich, and so far he and the pass rush upfront are delivering on that deal.
The Cleveland Browns have struggled so far this season, and are going into Week 3 having suffered a second-half beatdown from the Baltimore Ravens.
Cleveland should have won the opening game of the season, but made so many mistakes that they eventually cost themselves the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Baltimore Ravens scored 31 second-half points against them in Week 2, and now they’ll host a well-rested Packers team on Sunday.
Green Bay played on Thursday Night Football in Week 2, so the players have had a couple of extra days to recover before this weekend’s game. That could be bad news for a Cleveland Browns team still searching for its first win of the season.
