Packers climb NFL power rankings with tough stretch looming

The Packers’ schedule is about to get more difficult.

After visiting the lowly and struggling Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Green Bay enters a stretch against four teams with above .500 records over the next six games, with showdowns against the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the rival Minnesota Vikings, during that span.

Over at NFL Media, Eric Edholm lists the Packers as the No. 5 overall team in the outlet’s latest power rankings.

“The offense started slowly,” Edholm writes of the Packers. “And the defense found itself on its heels once Joe Flacco heated up, but the Packers at least took care of business and didn’t let the 40-year-old quarterback beat them twice in the same season with different sub-.500 teams. Josh Jacobs reprised his workhorse role in the second half and helped spur the offense to two important TD drives and the game-sealing field goal.”

Edholm rightfully singled out Jacobs, who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Bengals, while emerging as the Packers’ closer, with a physical 38 yards and a score in the fourth quarter, while averaing 9.5 yards per carry over the final frame.

If the Packers can lean into that formula for an entire 60 minutes, Green Bay is going to boast the kind of offense that can dictate to defenses and become one of the NFL’s tougher outs.
