Packers DC shares bold prediction for how Micah Parsons will respond after brutal injury

The Green Bay Packers lost star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to a season-ending torn ACL during Green Bay's 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley shared a bold prediction regarding how Parsons will respond to his 2025 campaign ending prematurely.

Will Micah Parsons be targeting a Myles Garrett mark in 2026?

"If I were a betting man, I would bet that he comes back even better and probably breaks the sack record next year," Hafley said about Parsons, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. "So I’m going to put that on Micah and myself, and you guys can put that out there."

Across the first 14 games of his Green Bay tenure, Parsons tallied 12.5 sacks before his injury. Meanwhile, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns will head into this weekend with 21.5 sacks for the campaign. Garrett is expected to break the official record (22.5) and unofficial (23) record for quarterback takedowns before Week 18 wraps up.

"We’ll see when he comes back," Hafley added about Parsons. "Just wait until you guys see how hard he works to come back, how fast he probably comes back…give Micah adversity and watch what happens."

ESPN's Rob Demovsky mentioned that Parsons likely will miss at least the first three games of the 2026 season. Of course, a timeline for Parsons' return to action won't truly become clear before next summer.

What Jeff Hafley told Packers players after Micah Parsons injury

As for the 2025 Packers, the 9-4-1 team is chasing the 10-4 Chicago Bears in the battle for the NFC North division title. Green Bay currently holds the conference's final wild-card playoff berth over the 8-6 Detroit Lions.

The Packers play at the Bears on December 21. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Green Bay as a 1.5-point underdog for that game.

Hafley made it clear on Wednesday that he knows the Bears won't have much sympathy for the Packers at Soldier Field ahead of Christmas.

"I told them you can’t let circumstances dictate behavior," Hafley said about his message to his defense following the Parsons injury. "...We’ve got really good players. We’ve played good defense, and we’re going to continue to play good defense. Our guys understand that, and I think it’s important for everyone to understand that these guys have a lot of pride and they’re going to get even closer because of this. And they’re going to play well. Our best players are going to step up, and the guys who haven’t played a lot, that’s been our job all year, is to develop those guys. So in situations like this, they’re going to step up, and we’re going to play hard, and we’re going to coach hard, and we’re going to do everything we can to win."
