The Green Bay Packers sent fans home from Lambeau Field with lifted spirits following Sunday’s 24-7 win over the Chicago Bears.
That was until they gave their bank accounts a onceover and saw duplicate charges on their credit or debit cards from food and beverage vendors at Lambeau Field. The Packers are the second Wisconsin-area team to experience such issues after the cashless system the Milwaukee Brewers use at American Family Field shut down on Sunday as well.
Through a team issued statement, the Packers acknowledged the situation and claimed they are working to resolve the issue.
"This was due to an issue encountered worldwide through the payment processor FreedomPay, which is used by Delaware North (the Packers’ food and beverage provider) to process payments in their venues throughout the country,” the Packers posted on their website Monday afternoon.
“Fans may notice these charges as 'pending' in their recent transactions on their credit or debit card accounts, but any duplicate charges will not be completed. FreedomPay is currently voiding all duplicate transactions before they are processed, and those transactions should be voided from each customers' account shortly."
Lambeau Field went cashless in 2020, meaning every one of the 78,350 fans who attended Sunday’s game and may have purchased food or drink from any vendor at Lambeau Field on Sunday could be subject to the double charges.
Fox 11 in Green Bay reported that some fans were charged as many as 12 times for a single purchase.
As of Wednesday evening, the Packers have not further commented on the situation.
