Packers Getting Zach Tom Reps All Across Offensive Line
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

There have been a number of players standing out in the early going of training camp for the Green Bay Packers this year. One of those players is offensive lineman, Zach Tom.

Tom, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest, is set to have a major role during the upcoming season. Where that role will be seemingly is still to be determined. But, whatever the Packers ask of him, he will be ready to produce as he spent this offseason working very hard on bulking up.

According to Tom, he put on a good amount of muscle this offseason. “Yeah, I put on like 15-20 pounds in the offseason,” Tom said. “I definitely feel bigger out there.”

Lauded for his athleticism coming out of college, Tom now has the bulk to handle himself at the next level. He believes that the added weight is going to help him perform better as a run blocker.

“I’m able to get a little more movement in the run game than I was last year. I feel like my anchor is better than it was,” Tom said.

Out of the gate, Tom looked like he would be in line for the starting right tackle position. But, his versatility is not going to waste.

While his focus is on the right tackle position, where he is competing with Yosh Nijman for the starting spot, the Packers have been getting him reps along the entire offensive line. Earlier this week, he was taking first-team reps at the center spot.

That could be telling about the plans that the Packers have in the trenches, as this unit may not be as set in stone as originally thought. Given his flexibility, if someone such as Nijman plays well enough to earn a spot at right tackle, Tom could kick inside and replace Josh Myers at center.

Regardless of what the Packers as Tom to do this season, he will be ready for it. With his confidence skyrocketing compared to last season, the Wake Forest product is in for a big 2023.
