Packers GM Brian Gutekunst: 'No deadlines' for Aaron Rodgers decision but 'the earlier the better'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers offered little insight into his plans for 2022 when he told "The Pat McAfee Show" that "there will be no decision about my future" as of Tuesday afternoon.

Rodgers was named NFL Most Valuable Player for the fourth time of his Hall of Fame career shortly before Super Bowl LVI, and both he and others have said his relationship with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is in a much better place than where it was roughly 12 months ago. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Gutekunst told reporters Wednesday there are "no deadlines" for Rodgers to make his final decision.

With the new league year set to open on March 16, though, Gutekunst added "the earlier the better" regarding Rodgers' intentions so that the club can better prepare for offseason activities.

"We’re working together. The conversations after the season were very impactful and I appreciated them very much," Gutekunst remarked about his talks with Rodgers.

It was reported Tuesday that All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams hasn't yet had any discussions with the Packers this winter about signing a new contract. Green Bay could use the franchise tag to retain Adams' rights through the 2022 campaign, but PFT's Michael David Smith notes Gutekunst admitted the club could lose the 29-year-old to free agency if the two sides don't come to terms on a new deal before the franchise tag window closes on March 8.
