Packers HC explains his issue with Fox Sports reporter

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur explained during Monday's season-ending news conference why he was upset with Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi.

Rookie kicker Anders Carlson had a critical miss on a 41-yard field goal attempt midway through the fourth quarter of the Packers' NFC divisional round loss against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. Rinaldi chimed in with his report following the misfire.

Carlson was selected by Green Bay in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and had an inconsistent regular season. The 25-year-old went just 34-for-39 on extra points (87.2%) across the 17 games, while going 27-for-33 on field goals.

Carlson was a perfect 20-for-20 on field goal tries from under 40 yards out but went 4-for-8 on kicks from between 40-49 yards away and 3-for-5 on attempts from 50 yards or more. Carlson was 6-for-7 on extra-point tries in the Packers' 48-32 wild-card round win against the Dallas Cowboys and didn't have any field goal attempts.

The Auburn product made his only PAT kick vs. the Niners on Saturday and was 2-for-2 on field goals (both from 29 yards out) before his miss in the fourth quarter.

There's no guarantee that a successful attempt from Carlson would've led to a Green Bay victory but it certainly didn't help the cause. Down only four points with decent field position and over six minutes remaining, San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy was not only able to engineer a 12-play scoring drive but leave the Packers offense with just 1:07 left in regulation.

A Dre Greenlaw interception with 52 seconds remaining sent the 49ers to their third consecutive NFC Championship Game and fourth in five seasons. Carlson, LaFleur and the Packers meanwhile, came up two wins short of their first Super Bowl appearance in 13 years.
