Packers HC Matt LaFleur reveals simple truth about new facilities

The Green Bay Packers came into training camp with a ton to prove.

They haven't won the NFC North since 2021 and they're still one of the youngest teams in the league. They, hypothetically, have the talent to be a Super Bowl contender, but there are also several key players on the team under immense pressure to step up in 2025 in order for the high expectations in Green Bay to be realized.

That makes this training camp extremely important for head coach Matt LaFleur and his team, and he wants his squad to be focused.

As such, the Pack recently revealed renovations to the locker room and that's a potential distraction that LaFleur wants his guys to avoid. Yes, they're living in luxury and undoubtedly enjoying the extra space and new amenities, but LaFleur was clear on the first day of training camp that while the new facilities are a bonus, they ultimately have nothing to do with winning and losing in 2025.

"I think it's nice, but like I told our guys it gives us zero wins," LaFleur said, according to the team website. "Nothing's changing with that football field. You've got to go do it out there."

The new digs are flashy, but there's ultimately nothing flashy about training camp. If the Packers want to compete with the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings and even the Chicago Bears this season, they're going to have to grind from the get-go.

The NFC North is in flux and there is potential for the Packers to reclaim the divisional crown, but there is work to do.

Can Jordan Love consistently play like a top quarterback? Will the receiving core get over the drop problems that plagued it for all of 2023? On defense, can Xavier McKinney have another All-Pro year?

The Packers came into this season seemingly content with their pass-rushing options, but can Rashan Gary have a true superstar year, and will Lukas Van Ness ever live up to his first-round billing?

All of those questions will be answered this season. If the Packers want those answers to be in their favor, though, the work starts now.

"I told them [Wednesday], we got all these sexy facilities, but understand there's nothing sexy about the process. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, sacrifice, pain to get to where you want to go," LaFleur said. "Hopefully at the end of it there's a payoff."
