Packers HC Matt LaFleur reveals the 'best venue in all of sports'

There are a few stadiums in professionals sports that can offer a borderline religious experience. Lambeau Field in Green Bay, home of the Packers, is one of them.

Built in 1957 as City Stadium, the place was renamed in 1965 in honor of Packers founder/player/coach Earl "Curly" Lambeau. It has seen a ton of football and many legends of the game. The Packers alone have boasted Don Hutson, Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, Reggie White, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers among others. That's also not counting legends on the opposing teams who have graced Lambeau Field.

Amongst "bucket list" stadiums for sports fans its right up there with Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and the Rose Bowl, but ahead of the Packers home opener, head coach Matt LaFleur thinks that Lambeau is the tops of them all.

"There's no better place to play in the National Football League. I said that even before I was here," LaFleur told the media. "I think this is the best venue in all of sports. I love playing here. I love feeling the support from our fans, and hopefully they show up and show out for us on Sunday and we'll feed off that energy."

The Packers truly do have something special ,and you have to experience it to understand it. Lambeau is essentially built in the middle of a residential neighborhood. If you live nearby, you can look out one of the windows of your house and see it, giving the Packers an incredible connection with the community. That, and the fact that outside of football, there's not much to do in Green Bay. It's not like the small Wisconsin town is known for its bustling night life.

The Packers will be 1-1 as they return to Green Bay for their first home clash of the year. They welcome in the 2-0 New Orleans Saints led by new quarterback Derek Carr.
