The trade market for Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs may never be hotter than at this moment.
In New York, Giants playmaking wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL that will end his season, during a game that marked first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s first career NFL start.
Then, in Miami, Dolphins All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered what is feared to be a dislocated knee, which would end his season.
If the Dolphins have any designs on trying to contend in the AFC East, and if the Giants are looking to hasten their rookie quarterback’s development, and make a full evaluation of the first-round pick over the final 13 games of the regular season, both franchises would be wise to trade for a wide receiver. Green Bay, with the likes of an emerging rookie in Matthew Golden, Christian Watson on the verge of returning, and Jayden Reed getting back on the field sometime in the next two months, could be an ideal trade partner.
Romeo Doubs could be a top target for both the Giants and Dolphins, as well as any other receiver-needy team, ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
After catching three touchdown passes against the Cowboys, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if the emerging Packers star be top of mind for general managers of teams looking for receiver help.
However, Packers reporter Wes Hodkiewicz argues a Doubs trade would be shortsighted for general manager Brian Gutekunst to explore.
“You’re starting to see why LaFleur scoffed at that narrative, no?” Hodkiewicz writes. “Whatever the outside perception was, the Packers know Doubs’ value to this offense. He is that go-to guy in must-have situations. I’m not sure how many of you caught David Bakhtiari’s tweet on Monday, but the former Packers left tackle praised Doubs not only for his professionalism on the field but also his character off it. Doubs is as quiet and steady as a stream trickling through a forest.”
Doubs, who has caught 13 passes for 179 yards with four touchdowns through the season’s first four games would probably be an upgrade for several teams across the league.
However, removing Doubs from quarterback Jordan Love’s supporting cast in a Super Bowl window could also prove to be a significant risk for the Packers.
