Packers' Jaire Alexander: 'I'll be alright' after groin injury
Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (23) looks on at Lambeau Field. Green Bay Press Gazette -USA TODAY NETWORK

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14-12 on Sunday afternoon. Despite the obvious hype around two Hall of Fame quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady facing each other, the game was decided by defense.

Unfortunately for the Packers, their defense was without star cornerback Jaire Alexander for most of the game. Alexander exited early with a groin injury after the first defensive series. He did not return to the game. Afterward, however, he provided an optimistic update to Ryan Wood of USA Today.

Jaire Alexander does not think the injury will keep him out long

After the Packers’ victory, Ryan Wood caught up with Alexander in the locker room. He asked Alexander if he thought the injury would keep him out for a prolonged period of time. Alexander’s answer is great news for the Packers and their fans.

As Wood acknowledges in the Tweet above, this is coming from Alexander the player and not team doctors. Groin injuries can be difficult to gauge at first. Only time will tell if he will miss any more time. Hopefully, he will be ready to go next week against the New England Patriots.

Fortunately for the Packers, Keisean Nixon filled in admirably for Alexander after he went down. Nixon ended the contest against the Buccaneers with seven total tackles and amazing punt coverage. While Nixon played well, there is no replacing a player of Jaire Alexander’s caliber. The Packers will certainly need him healthy for the majority of the season.
