Green Bay Packers star running back Josh Jacobs still follows the career of one of his former teammates.

On Thursday, Jacobs shared an Instagram Story post about his ex-teammate with the Las Vegas Raiders landing a new job outside of the NFL.

Jacobs, who was taken by the then-Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, acknowledged the signing of former Raiders running back Peyton Barber with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) by re-posting an announcement about it on social media.

He added three fire emojis to also emphasize his excitement for what’s ahead for Barber.

Packers’ Jacobs and Barber were once NFL teammates

Jacobs and Barber were on the same 2021 Raiders team. It was the only season they were teammates, and it was the most recent time Barber played in the NFL. Barber entered the NFL in 2016. He was undrafted but was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom he played for until 2019. Before he went to the Raiders, he spent the 2020 NFL season with the Washington Football Team.

In 89 games in the NFL, Barber, a product of the Auburn Tigers football program, rushed for 2,457 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns on 700 carries.

Barber will perhaps never play in the NFL again. While he is still just 31 years old, it’s a relatively old age for his position. If he couldn’t crack an NFL roster in the several years after his split with the Raiders, what’s going to make teams in the league look in his direction and give him a roster spot?

In any case, Barber has at least one fan in Jacobs.
