The Green Bay Packers traded for veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin, and didn’t waste any time restructuring his contract.
Franklin, who led the league in tackles in 2024, arrived in Green Bay via a trade just before NFL free agency began and should play a prominent role in new coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s defense, when the 2026 regular season kicks off in September.
In an effort to create cap space, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers restructured Franklin’s contract.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, Franklin’s reworked two-year deal included a $3.75 million signing bonus, giving Franklin some additional guaranteed money and all but ensuring his roster spot for the 2026 campaign.
Thanks to his reworked deal, Franklin could collect up to $2 million more than the $7.5 million he was slated to earn from the Indianapolis Colts prior to the trade.
Franklin arrives in Green Bay, having produced 738 total tackles through the first eight seasons, including 66 last season along with one pass breakup.
