Packers Look to Bounce Back At Lambeau South
Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images

The Packers laid an egg last week. There’s a half dozen things you could point to that went wrong, but ultimately it was a game the Packers never should’ve lost. But that’s simply the NFL today. Even the worst team can surprise you if things go the right (or wrong) way. While it does seem like the Packers got caught looking ahead, it’s just as important to not get caught up in the past. So what do the Packers need to do to bounce back against a Cowboys team desperate for a win?

Put the Ball in Love’s Hands

Enough is enough. We understand the MLF wants the offense to be able to run the ball. It’s not happening, and least not yet. Once the offensive line had had some stability things might be different, but right now you need to let the QB you paid 55m to go out and be the center of your offense. This is a Dallas defense that cannot rush the passer and cannot cover wide receivers. If there was ever a time to put the game in your QB’s hands its this one.

Additionally, Dallas could possibly be without Kenny Clark or Trevon Diggs. Either way this is a game where the offense needs to step up.

The Packers Need to Grow Up

14 Penalties. Just an absurd amount. It’s year three of the rebuild, reload, whatever you’d like to call it, and this team still has discipline problems. We’re past the point where it matters that this is the “youngest team in the league.” Nobody cares. This is a Super Bowl level roster. They have everything they need to get to the end, but it won’t matter if the team just continues to shoot itself in the foot.

It’s not limited to just penalties either. Special teams lapses continue to haunt this franchise every year. A lot of focus has been given to Micah Parsons as the catalyst for the Packers defensive dominance. It shouldn’t be ignored however that the entire defensive line room seems improved, and at least some of that credit needs to go to the coaching change from Rebrovich to DeMarcus Covington. Why do I mention this in regards to a point about special teams? Because they’ve been an issue for years, despite having one of the highest paid coaches in the league at the position group.

Be Desperate

The Cleveland Browns were desperate. Teams that start 0-2 rarely make the playoffs. Teams that start 0-3 are rarer even than that. Cleveland played like their season was on the line, because even in week three it already was.

The Packers are not in that same situation, but they need to start playing like they are. In the first two weeks the defense had four or five helmets on the ball on every play. Against Cleveland it was one or two. Nothing exemplified that more than the first down the Browns rookie tight end had at the end of the game. The defense that started the season shuts that down.

The Packers are a better team than the Cowboys. The Cowboys have injuries at crucial positions. Green Bay has never lost at AT&T stadium. All of this tells you that they should win.

They should have won last week. The more desperate team did instead. The Cowboys are 1-2. They’re going to be desperate. The Packers need to match that energy or risk another let down and more questions.

Final Prediction

The Packers learn their lesson from a bad loss and leave Dallas with a convincing win. Dallas has some firepower, but not the kind that will let them attack the Packers biggest weaknesses.
