Jayden Reed went down with a shoulder injury early in the Green Bay Packers’ 27-18 Week 2 victory over the Washington Commanders. The setback sidelined him for the rest of the game and eventually required surgeries on both his clavicle and foot. A few days later, the team made an official roster move with its top wideout.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers are officially placing 25-year-old wide receiver Jayden Reed on injured reserve. The decision comes as no surprise, with his recovery timeline projected to be six to eight weeks.
“Packers officially placed Jayden Reed on IR,” Schefter wrote on a post in X (formerly Twitter).
Reed shared the latest update on his recovery through social media, revealing that he underwent two successful procedures—one to repair his collarbone and another to address a lingering foot issue.
”Successful foot & clavicle surgery thank you God
,” Reed wrote on X, earlier this week.
Even with the setback, Reed’s positive message reassured Packers fans that he’s determined to come back stronger. While the recovery process will take time, the surgeries also eliminate lingering issues that might have hampered him later in the season.
With Reed sidelined on IR, the Packers will need others in the wide receiver room to step up. Rookie Matthew Golden could see a bigger workload after managing just two catches for 16 yards in his first two outings. Romeo Doubs should continue to provide steady production, while tight end Tucker Kraft might emerge as Jordan Love’s top target in Green Bay.
This marks the first extended absence of Jayden Reed’s career. In his first two NFL seasons, the former second-round pick missed only one game, providing steady production for the Packers even without topping 1,000 yards in a season. Across 35 career games, Reed has totaled 122 receptions for 1,695 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Packers head into Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, who sit at 0-2 but boast one of the league’s toughest defenses. Cleveland ranks second in passing yards allowed per game at 146.0 and first in total yards surrendered at 191.5. Green Bay, however, counters with an offense firing on all cylinders, averaging 27.0 points per game, the sixth-highest mark in the NFL.
