The Green Bay Packers and Jeff Hafley are no more. On Monday, reports surfaced that Hafley, who has been the Packers’ defensive coordinator in 2024 and 2025, is set to become the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
ESPN Sources: Dolphins are hiring former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their head coach. Hafley completed his second interview with the team today and will be their new head coach.
Hafley isn’t the only new face in the coaching and executive positions for Miami, as he joins another Dolphins newcomer and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.
The Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel following another underwhelming season, and with Hafley, Miami gets to have a reset on the sidelines, hoping that he can become a long-term answer for the franchise.
In the 2025 NFL campaign, Hafley guided Green Bay’s defense into finishing 11th in the league with an average of 21.7 points allowed per game and 14th with 319.2 total yards surrendered per contest.
Before coming over to Green Bay, Hafley served as head coach of the Boston College Eagles. During his time with the Eagles, he went 22-26 in four seasons.
The 46-year-old Hafley does not have head-coaching experience in the NFL, but he has served in the coaching staffs of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers.
His stint with Green Bay ends following the team’s heartbreaking loss in the NFC Wild Card Round at the hands of Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago.
