Packers Love What They’re Seeing From CB Javon Bullard

Competition amongst the skill positions is in full swing. The Defensive Back room is certainly one that many have their eyes on. The outside corners are all making their case for the starting roles. However, I again will say that I expect to see Brandon Cisse quickly takeover Nixon’s spot, followed by Bejamin St. Juste taking over for Carrington Valentine.

Here’s a video from Day 1 of camp where Cisse took reps with the 1st team while Keisean nursed his hold ou.. I mean hamstring.

One spot that is locked in and looking to be elite in Gannon’s new defense, is of course Nickel CB Javon Bullard.

Packers Javon Bullard Building On Success

Javon Bullard enters into year 3 of training camp with plenty of momentum. The general consenus among the beat writers in the trenches is that Bullard is settling into new Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s schemes nicely, and looks to be taking another step forward this season.

Talent Beyond The Numbers

Here’s a breakdown of what Bullard has done to date for the green and gold by the numbers.

32 career games played

173 total tackles (104 solo tackles) averaging 5.4 tackles per game

4 passes defended

2 fumble recoveries

What the numbers don’t show is the physicality and football IQ Bullard brings to the game. He came into town in 2024 and became a contributor on day one, moving quickly from rotational safety, to the Packers go to slot corner.

The old saying also goes that the best ability is AVAILability. Playing on a team plagued by injuries, Bullard has been reliable and steadfast, even playing through some of his own injuries over the last 2 seasons.

Yesterday, on Day 2 of Training Camp, Bullard forced a fumble which was recovered by Xavier McKinney during team drills. His new level of physicality in punching out the ball may be attributed to a new hobby….

Looking Ahead To 2026

Matt LaFleur has made it clear that Javon Bullard’s development is trending in the right direction entering training camp. During OTAs and minicamp, LaFleur praised Bullard saying the young defensive back “epitomizes what we want to be about” in terms of “effort, physicality, finish.”

The Packers coach also pointed to Bullard’s growing comfort level, noting that the longer players spend in the league, the better they understand the details and execution required at the NFL level.

I’ve been high on Bullard since he was drafted in 2024, and I can’t wait to see how he progresses in 2026.
