Packers Make Decision After Losing QB Coach to Eagles

The Green Bay Packers are wasting no time moving on from Sean Mannion, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive coordinator last Jan. 29. The Packers decided to search in-house and named Luke Getsy as their new quarterbacks coach.

Mannion started with the Wisconsin-based organization in 2024 as an offensive assistant and worked closely with the team's quarterbacks. He earned the full-time quarterbacks coaching role in February last year when Tom Clements retired.

He joined the Eagles around two weeks after the Packers were eliminated by the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round.

Getsy is on his third stint with the team and he is back in a role he excelled before. He first joined them in 2014 as an offensive quality control coach. He became the wide receivers coach a year later. He briefly left in 2018 to work with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

His second stint began in 2019 when he rejoined the Packers as quarterbacks coach. This was the same year Matt LaFleur was hired as their head coach. Former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers experienced a resurgence during this time, winning two consecutive NFL MVP awards under Getsy’s mentorship.

He also worked as passing game coordinator until the 2020-2021 season. This was when Love arrived as the Packers’ backup quarterback after being selected 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Getsy left for two seasons and was hired by the Chicago Bears and the Las Vegas Raiders, but he returned in 2024 as a defensive consultant before being promoted to senior offensive assistant last season.

Getsy's hiring comes at a time when many critics expect Love to blossom in 2026 season after relative success in his first three seasons as the main quarterback of the team.
