If there were any pressure for Packers head coach Matt LaFleur entering the 2025 season, much of it was likely eased by Green Bay’s blockbuster trade to acquire All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Parsons’ presence elevates Green Bay into the Super Bowl conversation and could significantly benefit LaFleur’s offense, and quarterback Jordan Love because the Packers’ defense has the potential to make life extremely difficult for opposing offenses.
This season may even present the chance for LaFleur to make some personal history, as well.
Matt LaFleur has never won Coach of the Year, and while the award tends to favor new head coaches or teams that significantly defy expectations, the timing may be right for the Packers’ head coach to take home the hardware.
CBS Sports NFL analyst Garrett Podell listed LaFleur winning Coach of the Year among his five bold predictions for the upcoming season.
“Whether it’s been pure dominance (2020-2021),” Podell writes for CBS. “Or lifting the NFL’s youngest team to consecutive postseason berths in the first two years post-Rodgers, LaFleur has had a strong case for the award. Now, the 2025 season will be his year as he finally takes the hardware home. The entire NFL world has its eyes on Green Bay after general manager Brian Gutekunst ripped All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons out of Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones’ hands by trading just two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to Dallas in exchange for the 26-year-old four-time Pro Bowler.
“The attention plus consistently strong on-field play will finally be rewarded, and LaFleur will rise above his +2200 odds, tied for 12th in the league according to FanDuel, to win the award in the 2025 season.”
The Packers have masterfully built one of the league’s most talented homegrown rosters, and added some big pieces over the past two offseasons in All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney, running back Josh Jacobs, and now Parsons, which could set Green Bay up to make a major leap in 2025.
If Green Bay reaches its potential and the offense becomes as dominant as the Packers’ defense has the chance to be, LaFleur is going to have a compelling Coach of the Year resumè by season’s end. This might just be his most talented, and balanced team, yet.
