There goes the Green Bay Packers’ hopes for a perfect season. Matt LaFleur’s squad took its first stumble in the 2025 NFL regular season after it fell into a trap on the road, losing to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland.
Coming off two wins in a row to start the 2025 campaign, Green Bay had all the confidence in the world that it could take care of business against the Browns, who entered Week 3’s contest with a 0-2 record.
The Packers struggled offensively for most of the contest, but had a 10-0 lead heading at the start of the fourth quarter.
Still, it all came crashing down for Green Bay when the Browns blocked a Packers’ field goal attempt, which would have given them a lead after the Browns tied the score with a touchdown in a previous possession. That botched FG try led to Cleveland scoring the game-winning field goal, as the Browns pulled off a 13-10 stunner.
Jordan Love and the Packers’ attack clearly did not have a very good afternoon in Cleveland. Love passed for 183 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw an interception late in the second quarter and got sacked five times for a loss of 3 yards.
“That was extremely disappointing, obviously. To have an opportunity to win the game and have them flip the script late is tough to deal with,” LaFleur said after the game, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “We played well enough defensively to win the game, but we didn’t do a good enough job on offense and special teams.”
Green Bay’s rushing attack also had a forgettable outing, having generated just 81 yards on the ground on 31 carries. Running back Josh Jacobs picked up just 30 rushing yards on 16 carries for a pathetic average of 1.9 yards per rushing attempt.
These are issues LaFleur and the Packers will look to address in the coming days, as they now turn their attention to a Week 4 game in Arlington versus the Dallas Cowboys.
