Packers offensive lineman Rasheed Walker arrested on gun charge

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Rasheed Walker was arrested Friday morning at LaGuardia Airport in New York after attempting to check a bag that contained a firearm, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 25-year-old Walker was taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of a firearm, per the New York Post. He later appeared in Queens County Criminal Court and was released Friday.

According to the Post, which cited a criminal complaint, Walker informed an airline employee during the check-in process that his luggage contained a locked box with a handgun inside. The employee alerted Port Authority Police, who then searched the bag and discovered a 9mm Glock pistol along with 36 rounds of ammunition secured in the locked container.

Walker’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, told the Post that the firearm was legally licensed in Wisconsin and that Walker was unaware he could not travel with it in New York: “We are confident the matter will be resolved favorably,” Aidala told ESPN. He’s scheduled to return to court on March 19.

A seventh-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2022 NFL Draft, Walker has developed into a key piece of the team’s offensive line. He has appeared in multiple games for Green Bay and has worked his way into a regular role protecting quarterback Jordan Love during the Packers’ recent seasons.

Meanwhile, the incident comes at a time when the NFL has continued to emphasize off-field conduct, particularly involving firearms. New York’s gun laws are among the strictest in the country, and firearms legally owned in other states can still result in criminal charges if transported improperly within state lines.

The Packers have not yet issued a public statement regarding Walker’s arrest. It remains unclear whether the league will review the matter under its personal conduct policy, which often applies in cases involving arrests, regardless of whether charges are ultimately dismissed.

For now, Walker remains free while the legal process plays out. The outcome of his March court appearance will determine whether the charges are reduced, dismissed, or move forward, and whether the situation escalates beyond the legal system and into league discipline.
