Packers Place Micah Parsons On Reserve/PUP List

As expected, Micah Parsons will be sidelined through September. The Packers have placed their top edge rusher on the reserve/PUP list, as noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Today’s news does not come as a surprise. It nevertheless confirms an absence spanning at least the first four weeks of the campaign is in store for Parsons. The blockbuster 2025 trade acquisition saw his debut Green Bay tenure come to an end thanks to an ACL tear. He has mentioned Week 6 as a potential return date.

This development comes shortly after the news of running back Josh Jacobs being moved to the commissioner’s exempt list in the wake of his two misdemeanor charges. A stint without being eligible to practice or play is in store as a result. The same is now officially true for Parsons to open the campaign.

Upon being traded to Green Bay one week before the start of the 2025 season, Parsons inked a four-year extension averaging $46.5MM per season. Expectations were sky-high to begin his Packers tenure as a result. The former Cowboy star managed 12.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles in 14 games prior to his injury, one of many which hampered Green Bay’s defense down the stretch and into the playoffs.

A cautious approach on the part of the Packers with respect to Parsons’ recovery would come as no surprise given his importance to their outlook in 2026 and well beyond. The five-time Pro Bowler has not encountered any major setbacks over the course of the offseason, but he began training camp on the active/PUP list. Players in that situation can be activated to the roster at any time, although Parsons never reached a point where that was feasible this summer.

The Packers’ EDGE setup was altered this spring when another Cowboys trade took place, this time with Rashan Gary being sent to Dallas. His departure will leave Parsons as a foundational figure when healthy, but it will also increase the need for former first-rounder Lukas Van Ness to emerge as a consistent producer in the pass rush department. Van Ness’ early play will be critical with Parsons out of the picture until at least October.
