Packers' Primetime Schedule Shaping Up To Be Disastrous

A few days ago we were all talking about how absurd it was that the Atlanta Falcons were getting a heavy dose of primetime games on their schedule. But after Atlanta decimated the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, a look at Green Bay’s schedule suggests that they might have a way harder time.

A quick look at the Packers’ schedule shows that the 1-2 team has a whopping five more primetime games on the schedule, plus a Christmas Day game against the arch-rival Chicago Bears.

Week 6: vs Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football
Week 8: vs Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football
Week 12: at Los Angeles on Netflix (Thanksgiving Eve)
Week 14: vs Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football
Week 16: at Chicago Bears on Netflix (Christmas Day)
Week 17: vs Houston Texans on Monday Night Football

The good news is that four of those six primetime games are at home. The bad news is that last night’s home opening loss – their first home-opener lost in a decade – suggests that it’s not going to be much of a help for them right now.

Poor Starting Packers

Things have been rough for the Packers ever since that blown lead against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.

After losing that game on the road they went to MetLife Stadium against a New York Jets team that everyone expected them to pummel. Instead, it was the Jets that did the pummeling for the first three quarters of the game and took a late rally plus some galaxy brained coaching by the Jets for the Packers to eke out the win in overtime. In doing so, they avoided their first 0-2 start in 20 years.

The Packers went into historic Lambeau Field expecting that a game against the 0-2 Atlanta Falcons would be their “get-right” game. Instead, Atlanta dominated them from basically the second quarter all the way to the end.

It’s the kind of start to a season that can leave fans wondering if they’re doomed to finish the season with 10 or more losses – something the team hasn’t done since 2008. Unfortunately, the Packers can’t even look forward to the prospect of the team bottoming out and landing a top draft pick next year because they traded their 2027 first-round pick in last year’s Micah Parsons trade.

If the Packers don’t take down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week with their extended rest, this season could get downright ugly.
