Green Bay Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons is still on schedule, recovering from a torn ACL that ended his 2025 season. But he’s still not ready to return to the practice field ahead of this week’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Parsons would not practice this week.
“No setbacks. It’s just part of the process,” LaFleur said via the Packers. “He’s gotta get cleared before we can let him get out there.”
Green Bay placed Parsons on the reserve/physically unable to perform list at the start of the season, meaning he’d miss at least the first four games. The soonest he can return to the field will be in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears.
Initially, there was hope that the Packers would open his 21-day practice window as soon as Week 2. With Week 4 now here, there’s still no timetable for Parsons’ return.
Parsons had targeted a Week 6 return against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. However, that is now in serious doubt.
The Packers seem to be taking a cautious approach with their star player, which aligns with a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
“The Green Bay Packers are one of the most conservative medical teams,” Rapoport said on Monday. “They are not going to put him out there until he is fully ready, so trust in the Packers’ medical staff.”
After Green Bay acquired him in a shocking trade with the Cowboys, Parsons made an immediate impact, tallying 41 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss in his first season with the Packers. The Packers have struggled mightily without him, starting the 2026 campaign at 1-2, and could easily be 0-3.
Entering Week 4, the Packers rank 20th in total defense and 29th in points against. When Parsons does return, it will be a huge boost for a unit in dire need of it, but if he’s not back soon, it may be too little, too late.
