Packers QB Aaron Rodgers on idea of playing until 45: 'I'll be doing something else'

The marquee matchup in the NFL this Sunday will be in Tampa Bay in what could be the final head-to-head matchup between future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

It is also a matchup that looked like it may not happen this season as Brady flirted with the idea of retirement before coming back for a 23rd season in the NFL at the age of 45.

Do not expect Rodgers to follow in Brady's footsteps in playing deep into his 40s.

Rodgers does not have a timeline on when he will ultimately call it a career, but he told the Wisconsin State Journal that he has no plans to play until his 45th birthday

“I won’t be, I’ll be doing something else," said Rodgers. “I have a lot of other interests outside the game. Game’s been really, really good to me. I feel I’ve given my all to the game. At some point, it’ll be time to do something else, and I strongly believe that’ll be before 45.”

Rodgers' future with the Packers was also in doubt this offseason, but he ultimately ended up signing a new contract with the team.

Even at age 39 he continues to play at an extraordinarily high level and has won each of the past two league MVP awards. The Packers enter Sunday's game with a 1-1 record, while Tampa Bay is coming in 2-0 despite a slow start from Brady and the offense.
