Green Bay Packers backup quarterback and 2020 first-round draft pick Jordan Love suffered what's believed to be a non-serious shoulder injury in last Saturday's preseason opener against the Houston Texans. He was been held out of practices through Wednesday's joint session with the New York Jets ahead of this Saturday's exhibition contest between those teams.
Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur previously said he planned to give Love "every opportunity" to play against the Jets, but that's no longer the case.
Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk noted that Love was once again held out of Thursday's joint practice with the Jets, and LaFleur admitted to reporters it's "probably unlikely" the 22-year-old will face the Gang Green defense this weekend.
Packers starting quarterback and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers isn't expected to play a snap of preseason football this summer to stay healthy through the second weekend of September, so Kurt Benkert is on track to start against the Jets. Fellow backup Jake Dolegala rejoined the Packers earlier this week and will begin Saturday's contest beneath Benkert on the Green Bay depth chart.
