Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers’ think tank have big decisions to make by Tuesday, as they are tasked to trim the team’s roster down to a 53-man group.

There are obvious shoo-ins like quarterback Jordan Love and running back Josh Jacobs, but for many others, their future appears relatively uncertain. Among them is rookie signal-caller Taylor Elgersma.

With Love as the Packers’ top QB and Malik Willis as the chief backup at the position, Elgersma and Sean Clifford are the two names in contention for the No. 3 quarterback role.

Elgersma made a good account of himself in the Packers’ preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field on Saturday, passing for 33 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 6-of-8 pass completions, though he was also sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. His TD pass to wide receiver Will Sheppard added to Green Bay’s lead, as the Packers went up by 16 points before kicker Brandon McManus’ subsequent made extra-point try.

Green Bay Packers rookie QB shares IG post before final roster cuts

On Sunday, Elgersma, who played college football in Ontario, Canada, for Wilfrid Laurier University, shared a social media post on Instagram with photos from the Seahawks game. Although it did not come with a caption, Elgersma’s post featured a song from Bryson Cole titled “God’s Hands,” as though to convey his feelings about waiting for his roster fate in Green Bay.

Elgersma joined the Packers after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, attending the team’s rookie minicamp as a tryout player.

In Week 1 of the 2025 preseason against the New York Jets, he went 3-of-4 for 24 passing yards with zero touchdowns and no picks. In Week 2, he threw for 109 passing yards on 7-of-11 passes with no TDs and interceptions.
