Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have to clinch a spot in the NFL playoffs and win the AFC North division, but they are nearly assured of both. Still, they need things to happen, as soon as Week 17, to unlock those achievements.
The 9-6 Steelers can win the AFC North title and secure a spot in the NFL playoffs if the Baltimore Ravens loses to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field this coming Saturday. Pittsburgh will play a day after on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, which means by the time Rodgers and company step on the field, they already have an idea about whether they need to beat Myles Garrett and the Browns to win the AFC North.
Here’s what Rodgers had to say about that:
Via Brooke Pryor of ESPN:
Will Aaron Rodgers play Sunday if the Packers beat the Ravens on Saturday night and clinch the division for the Steelers?
“Well, it’s an eight o’clock game. So by the time that game finishes, I’ll be sleeping hopefully. I’m preparing to play and excited about playing.”
As for the Packers, they can book their spot in the playoffs with a win over Baltimore, so at least there is a common rooting interest in Week 17 for Rodgers and Green Bay fans. But Green Bay can also earn a playoff ticket with a tie, or a Detroit Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings, or a Lions-Vikings tie.
It has been a decent season thus far for the 42-year-old Rodgers, who is perhaps in his last hurrah in the NFL before a possible retirement at the end of the 2025 campaign.
