Packers Reportedly Finalizing Decision On Matt LaFleur

The Green Bay Packers lost to their most-hated rival in historic fashion on Saturday night, but it doesn't sound like that's going to cost Matt LaFleur his job.

Just last week, LaFleur curiously popped up in rumors questioning his future in Titletown. And after blowing a 21-3 second half lead against Chicago, those talks only seemed to amplify.

LaFleur said yesterday that he planned to meet with Packers president Ed Policy in the coming days to discuss where he and the organization plan to go from here — especially with just one year left on the coach's contract (something Policy said he was "generally opposed" to last summer).

Packers expected to work out deal to retain Matt LaFleur

Taking to X on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter had some news to share on how LaFleur and the franchise plan to move forward.

Per the NFL insider: "Packers now are expected to try to work out a deal in the coming days to keep head coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, per sources."

LaFleur has gone 70-46-1 over the course of his seven seasons in Green Bay with a 3-6 record and two first-round exits in the last two years.

As successful as the Packers have been in the post Mike McCarthy/Aaron Rodgers era, you could argue no team has benefitted more from the NFL expanding to seven playoff slots per conference than them. As they've made it as the No. 7 seed each of the last three seasons with only one postseason win (2023 over Dallas).

Matt LaFleur expresses desire to remain Packers HC, addresses offseason

Speaking to reporters after Saturday's ugly loss, LaFleur reiterated that he'd like to remain with the Packers, while also addressing some of what's to come as far as the speculation this offseason.

"I don't think those are questions for me," LaFleur said when asked why he's the right coach for Green Bay. "Like I said, I think my sole focus is just trying to find solutions to some of our issues and why things went awry yesterday. And you know, it's disappointing. I'm as disappointed, obviously, as, as all you guys, as our fans, as everybody in our organization, because we had plenty of opportunities to slam the door shut, and we didn't get it done."

It's going to be a long next couple days as Packers fans await LaFleur's contract talks. But if the franchise does decide to move on, at least there are some noteworthy and proven names in this coaching cycle.
