The Green Bay Packers aren't waiting to see the results from Saturday night's playoff game against the Chicago Bears to make a decision on head coach Matt LaFleur.

LaFleur, 46, has been coaching the Packers since the 2019 season. Although he hasn't taken the historic franchise to the Super Bowl just yet, he owns a 76-40-1 overall record and has already reached the playoffs six times. Despite consistently getting his team to the postseason, there's been some speculation about his future in Green Bay. Back in November, The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reported that LaFleur might be coaching for his job this season.

“Jeff Hafley is coordinating a championship defense,” Schneidman wrote. “LaFleur’s offense is far from that caliber. That might need to change over the next two months for him to keep his job.”

There have even been rumblings that Green Bay could trade LaFleur to another team, like the Atlanta Falcons.

On Saturday morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport provided an update on LaFleur's future with the Packers. As of now, the two sides plan on discussing a contract extension this offseason.

"Once the Green Bay Packers' season is over, and they hope it's later rather than sooner, the plan is to act quickly for one of the organization's most visible and important faces," Rapoport wrote. "Sources say the Packers plan to engage head coach Matt LaFleur in contract discussions shortly after the season ends, with the mutual goal of extending his contract."

LaFleur's current deal is set to expire after the 2026 season.

Green Bay set to lose talent this offseason.

On Friday, the Miami Dolphins named Jon-Eric Sullivan their next general manager. He's been with the Packers since 2003 and was most recently their vice president of player personnel.

Since the Dolphins have an opening at head coach, Sullivan could bring Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley with him to South Beach. That pairing would make sense considering Hafley is one of the most popular candidates in this year's cycle.

If the Packers lose Hafley to a head-coaching job, LaFleur will have to quickly replenish his staff with talent.
