Packers retaining top assistant Adam Stenavich, could promote him to OC

Matt LaFleur has already lost one of his top assistant coaches to a new job, and another is rumored to potentially be on the move. One of his most important associates isn't going anywhere, though.

Adam Stenavich, the Packers' running-game coordinator and offensive line coach, will remain in Green Bay despite significant outside interest, per Mike Klis of 9News in Denver.

The Broncos had requested to interview Stenavich for their offensive coordinator position, but were declined that permission by the Packers. Denver hired former Green Bay offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their new head coach on Thursday.

Stenavich, 38, appears to be a leading candidate to assume offensive coordinator duties following Hackett's departure. NFL rules prohibit teams from blocking assistants interviewing with other teams when it would be a promotion, so it's likely LaFleur plans to offer him the OC job or a significant raise, as Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel points out.

Silverstein also reports that current Packers quarterbacks coach and passing-game coordinator Luke Getsy might be headed to the division-rival Bears to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. Chicago hired Indianapolis defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as head coach on Thursday.

Stenavich has been with the Packers for the past three seasons. After a brief NFL career that included a stint in Green Bay, he began coaching in the college ranks. He first started working in the pros in 2017 as the 49ers' assistant offensive line coach, a position he held for two years before leaving for a promotion with the Packers.
