Packers rookie WR Christian Watson unlikely to play Week 3
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (9) picks up nine yards on a reception during the second quarter of their game against the Chicago Bears Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis Mark Hoffman / USA TODAY NETWORK

It sure has been a rollercoaster of good and bad news on the injury front for the Green Bay Packers. First, we learned that  Sammy Watkins was not only going to miss Sunday against the Buccaneers, but also that he was being placed in Injured Reserve. Then, we received the FANTASTIC news that David Bakhtiari is expected to play, barring any unforeseen setbacks from traveling . This morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported more news on the Packers’ injury front:

Randall Cobb has been held out of practice all week due to this illness. Christian Watson was a limited participant in practice earlier in the week, but did not practice on Thursday or Friday.

So far this season, Cobb has five receptions for 51 yards on six total targets. Watson also has five receptions, but only has 43 yards receiving. He also has rushed the ball once for seven yards.

As mentioned previously, the Packers will be without Sammy Watkins for a few weeks. He is their leading receiver this season after two weeks, with six receptions for 111 yards. Without Watkins or Watson, the Packers will have the following: Romeo Doubs, Cobb, Allen Lazard, and Amari Rodgers. Samori Toure is on the 53-man roster, but has yet to be active for a game this season. Green Bay also elevated Juwann Winfree from the practice squad for the second time this season.

Of course, the wide receivers are not the only weapons for Aaron Rodgers in the Packers passing game. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon will each get plenty of passes thrown their way as well. Additionally, the Packers still have Robert Tonyan, who caught 11 touchdown passes during the 2020 season, tying the team record for touchdown receptions by a tight end.
